Meet Dr. Hu—MD / PhD and gut health pioneer—on the On Air with Yenitza podcast as she shares the powerful story behind FermentPro. Discover how this breakthrough home fermentation system is empowering people to reclaim their digestive health naturally and easily.

We are a mother-daughter trio — Ping (Dr. Wanping Hu), Hannah, and Aleena — brought together not only by love, but by necessity.

Our story didn’t begin as a business idea.
It began in our home, during one of the most challenging chapters of our lives.

I have been an oncologist for more than twenty years and hold a PhD in microbiology and immunology. Throughout my career, I believed I had a strong understanding of health and disease. But that confidence faded when my younger daughter was born with severe allergies, and my older daughter developed an autoimmune disease as a teenager.

As a doctor, I could explain the biology.
As a mother, I felt completely helpless.

We tried everything — medications, multiple rounds of steroids, specialists, and endless adjustments — but nothing brought lasting relief. Watching my daughters struggle was one of the most painful experiences of my life.

Out of that frustration, we began looking beyond the tools I had been trained to use. We turned back to older traditions, simpler foods, and the body’s natural ability to heal. That was when we rediscovered fermentation.

At first, it was simply for our family. Our kitchen slowly filled with jars of yogurt, kombucha, kimchi, and miso. Over time, we began to notice changes. The girls grew stronger. Their flare-ups became less frequent.

Then something unexpected happened to me as well.

I had been diagnosed with premature menopause at age forty-five. Yet after drinking homemade kombucha daily for six weeks — during the same period when my daughter was finally able to come off prednisone and Zyrtec — my own menstrual cycle returned and continued for eight more precious years.

It was completely shocking to me.

That was the moment I realized these foods might be doing something deeper — supporting the body’s balance and healing from within.

But fermentation also came with a practical challenge.

In winter, our kombucha could take three to four weeks to brew because the temperature in our home was too low. Every batch was unpredictable.

With my background in microbiology — where precise temperature control determines microbial growth — I began thinking about how to bring that same level of precision into our kitchen.

That idea eventually became FermentPro.

It didn’t begin as a product.
It began as a solution for my own home.

But once I saw what fermentation had done for my daughters and for myself, I knew I couldn’t keep it within just our family.

What started as a way to help my children gradually grew into a lifestyle — and then into a mission.

FermentPro is the result of that journey. It brings precise, reliable fermentation into everyday kitchens, combining scientific accuracy with the wisdom of traditional foods. It removes the guesswork and makes fermentation simple, accessible, and consistent for any family.
